      Terms and Conditions

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

      Terms and Conditions of Hire

Statement: The Trustees, Directors, and Staff at Durham City Shopmobility are committed to providing the best possible service to our members. The Health and Safety of our members is one of our top priorities. With this in mind, we would like our members to be aware of the following:

Anyone with a medical condition such as epilepsy, diabetes, and who is subject to seizures or angina attacks, or whose sight is impaired to the extent that they should not drive, should use our attendant-controlled wheelchairs for their own and public safety.

If you have been previously advised not to use an electric wheelchair and/or scooter by your GP, physiotherapist, or occupational therapist—or have been refused such a piece of equipment during an assessment—we strongly advise against using our equipment.

Our standard wheelchairs and scooters have a maximum weight limit of eighteen stone. Specialised equipment is available upon request.

All wheelchairs are fitted with lap belts. Differing professional opinions exist regarding the use of such belts. Our staff will explain these issues to you, and the use of belts will then be at the discretion of individual members.

      Terms and Conditions of Usage

I acknowledge that I have undergone a basic introduction to the safe use of the equipment and have had the controls explained to me. I have also had a supervised trial run on the equipment.

I accept full responsibility for any wheelchair or scooter in my care while using Durham City Shopmobility services. Specifically, I agree to the following:

      • The wheelchair or scooter will not be taken out of the City Centre without prior arrangement with Shopmobility staff.
      • I will operate the wheelchair or scooter with due care and attention, abiding by a walking speed and using designated crossing points and dropped curbs whenever applicable.
      • If the equipment is left unattended, I will ensure that it does not obstruct footpaths, building entrances, or restrict access for other individuals. The key will be removed from the equipment during such times.
      • I will conduct myself respectfully and will not be abusive or cause distress to staff, volunteers, or the general public.
      • I will not operate the equipment under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal substances.
      • I will not carry equipment, shopping, or other items in a manner that interferes with my ability to safely control or steer the equipment.
      • I will not carry passengers or pets and will not allow anyone else to operate the equipment.
      • I confirm that, to the best of my knowledge, I do not have any condition that would impair my ability to safely operate the equipment loaned to me by Durham City Shopmobility.
